A series of three workshops designed to help students pass the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in Mandarin, an exam required by the state for becoming a credentialed K-12 Mandarin teacher.

Chinese Teacher Leadership Institute (CTLI)
To ensure that K-12 Mandarin language and culture programs prosper and students gain the needed proficiency to use the language in real world situations, California needs well-qualified language teachers in its classrooms. The UCLA Chinese Teacher Leadership Institute (CTLI) seeks to provide Mandarin teachers with the necessary tools to become master teachers of language and culture, and the skills to serve as leaders in Mandarin teaching in the K-12 community.

International Chinese Medical Literature Translation Workshop

This is an international, interdisciplinary all-day workshop dedicated to providing solutions for the continued high-quality translation of Chinese medical literature (texts, online databases, and more). With scholars, clinicians, and researchers invited from multiple sectors of both Chinese and integrative medicine, the workshop will offer for the first time a venue for cross-dialogue between various stake-holders in the translation process. Research Symposium of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM)

CAHCIM is a network of 50 academic medical centers across the U.S. and Canada. Its members include Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Harvard, Duke, University of Michigan, and UCSF. On October 26 there will be an all day research symposium. Many leading scholars will gather in Los Angeles around that time and showcase their research projects on a wide array of topics in integrative medicine. Media and Culture in Contemporary China

The boundaries between Hollywood and Asia are fast disappearing, with Asian corporations playing a key role in U.S. film production, and with American theme parks and retail stores in Japan, Hong Kong and China attracting visitors from all over Asia. This two-day conference will explore the globalization of the China entertainment industry and the impact of film and TV on public perception of history and culture in China.The conference will also feature a keynote address by Chinese producer and director Zhang Jizhong (張紀中), as well as a screening of his new TV serial Journey to the West (西遊記).
