Doctoral Program Support

Hanban announces two opportunities for Ph.D. students to study in China (Humanities and Social Sciences) as part of its new Confucius China Study Plan (孔子新汉学计划).

The deadline to apply for these scholarship programs is November 30, 2012.

1. Sino-Foreign Joint Ph.D. Program
This program will support newly-enrolled or continuing Ph.D.. D. students from foreign universities to pursue 1-2 years of study at selected Chinese universities.  Students who successfully complete their program of study are eligible to receive a doctoral degree from the Chinese university, in addition to a degree from their home institution. 

2.  Ph.D. in China Program
This program supports foreign students who wish to pursue a doctoral degree at selected Chinese universities.

Support

Hanban will provide qualified candidates with up to 200,000 RMB per year to cover tuition and tutoring costs, lodging, living stipend, library stipend, research costs, health insurance (in China), conference attendance (one annually), and round-trip international transportation

Qualifications

  1. Non-Chinese nationality
  2. In good health
  3. Demonstrated competence in spoken and written Chinese

Sino-Foreign Joint Ph.D. Program (中外合作培养博士项目)

  1. Complete online application form (passport-sized photo 300 KB maximum will be required.)
  2. Proof of enrollment in a foreign doctoral program
  3. 2 Letters of Recommendations from faculty knowledgeable of your planned research and Chinese proficiency level.
  4. Proof of Chinese proficiency (demonstrated by a HSK test score of 3 or higher, or letter from the UCLA Confucius Institute.  Click here to learn more about the HSK.)

Ph.D. in China Program (来华攻读博士学位项目)

  1. Complete online application form (passport-sized photo 300 KB maximum is required.)
  2. Notorized copy of Academic Transcript and Diploma from undergraduate and post-graduate degree programs (with Chinese translation)
  3. Copy of graduation diploma(s)
  4. 2 Letter of Recommendation from faculty knowledgeable of your planned research and Chinese proficiency level
  5. Letter of Recommendation from the UCLA Confucius (please contact us)
  6. Proof of Chinese proficiency (demonstrated by a HSK test score of 5 or higher, or a letter from the UCLA Confucius Institute. Click here to learn more about the HSK.)
