Did you know that California has been home to Chinese and Spanish-speakers for over 500 years -- longer than it has been part of the United States? Chinese and Spanish aren't just two of the most-used languages in the world, crucial for international business and diplomacy: for Angelenos, these languages are part of our own history, culture, and daily life.
Over 120 people attended the first annual conference on dual language immersion in secondary schools. Sponsored by the UCLA Confucius Institute and the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, The Policy and Practice of Dual Immersion: Planning for the Secondary Years featured keynote speakers, expert panels, and breakout groups targeted toward sharing the latest in research and best practices as well as troubleshooting common challenges with developing and implementing dual immersion programs.
