UCLA - Tianjin University Cross-Cultural Architectural Exchange Studio

Spring 2008

UCLA’s Department of Architecture and Urban Design and Tianjin University’s School of Architecture have created a unique exchange program providing students with a cross-cultural look at architecture. The program has been in existence for three years. This year the UCLA Confucius Institute supported eight students from the spring 2008 design class, paying their travel and accommodation costs during their trip to China. The UCLA students stayed in dormitories at Tianijin University and participated in a two-week intensive architecture workshop alongside Chinese architecture students. At the end of the program students traveled to cultural sites in Beijing such as the Bird's Nest and the Great Wall. At the Great Wall they visited the Commune by the Great Wall, a group of 12 contemporary houses built by famous architects from China. In June 2008, professors and students from Tianjin will visit UCLA to participate in a workshop with UCLA architecture students. During their visit they will tour Los Angeles and visit sites of architectural interest.
